Empowering the Next Generation of Scientists

AIP supports and advocates for high-quality science education for all students.

SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma

AIP operates two professional societies to help students build their skills and flourish within the scientific community. The Society of Physics Students (SPS) is a chapter-based society that is open to anyone interested in physics. Sigma Pi Sigma, the national physics and astronomy honor society, elects members on the basis of outstanding academic achievement.

Alumni Network

Have you already graduated? You can still stay involved in SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma! AIP’s programs can connect you to current undergraduates and help you give back to the physical sciences community.

TEAM-UP Together

TEAM-UP Together is a collective action initiative established by the American Association of Physics Teachers, American Astronomical Society, American Institute of Physics, American Physical Society, and Society of Physics Students to drive systemic change in the physical sciences community. Our mission is to catalyze structural and cultural change in physics and astronomy to significantly improve graduation outcomes for undergraduates who face the starkest barriers to success in these fields, including a focus on African American students.
