Outreach programs are a rewarding way for SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma members to build their skills while giving back to the community. Outreach promotes public understanding of the benefits of physics, fosters curiosity and passion for science in the next generation, and encourages undergraduate students to become ambassadors of science committed to their discipline.

Science Outreach Catalyst Kits
Science Outreach Catalyst Kits, or SOCKs, are free to SPS chapters (while supplies last) and contain an exploratory physics and science activity that is specifically designed for SPS chapters to use in outreach presentations to elementary, middle and high school students. Each SOCK comes with the essential materials to conduct a set of demonstrations, a comprehensive manual, and instructions on how to expand the demonstration to become a tried-and-true outreach activity. It’s designed for chapters just starting out or those who are demo pros. SOCKs are designed and implemented annually by the SPS National interns and SPS National office staff.
Outreach Demonstration Guides
SPS also provides a comprehensive list of low-cost physics demonstrations that can be implemented by any chapter! Each demonstration includes parts lists, instructions, key physical concepts to explain, and demonstration videos, where appropriate. Demo topics include optics, astronomy, electricity & magnetism, and more.
