About the Recipient

Zone and Chapter: University of Tennessee-Knoxville

I am a fifth year student at the University of Tennessee. I am majoring in the College Scholars program where my focus is on Experimental Biophysics and Science Policy. I’ve been involved with SPS as a chapter officer since my freshman year, and I served for two years as chapter President. I served two terms on the SPS National Council and one term as Student Representative to the Executive Committee. My current research focuses on ultrafast optics, and the applications of this field to confocal microscopy. After graduation, I plan to attend graduate school for a Ph.D. in biophysics and possibly pursue a Masters in Science Policy. I hope to continue to be involved in projects that increase public understanding of science and the influence of science in public events.
