About the Recipient
Zone and Chapter: University of Maryland-College Park
Kathleen is a rising junior, preparing to transfer from Howard Community College to her four-year university. Her Associate’s Degrees will be in Physical Science and Mathematics, and she intends to specialize in Astronomy and Applied Math for her Bachelor’s before continuing onto her Doctorate in Astronomy. Over the summer, in addition to working as a math tutor and organizing star parties with her campus’s Astronomy Club, she will be polishing her work on two research projects. The first involves plotting galactic rotation curves due to various hypothetical dark matter distributions and will be published soon. The second investigates the relationship between resonance and the onset of chaos in double-pendulum systems, for which a paper is forthcoming.
