About the Recipient
Landon helped to revive the University of Tennesee Chattanooga (UTC) Chapter after 2020, applying for an SPS research grant to replicate the LEGO model of the Kibble Balance built in NIST in 2021. Landon became the leader of this project in 2022. He attended all the work parties and was extremely helpful to other students involved in the project.
During his junior and senior years, Landon led two other research projects conducted by the UTC Chapter: “LEGOLAS – LEGO-based Low-cost Autonomous Scientist” and “A 3D-Printed Laser Autocollimator for Precise Angular Deviation Measurements”.
In his sophomore year, Landon became the Vice-President of UTC SPS, and then the President for his junior and senior years. As a president, he was organized, responsible, inspiring, bursting with ideas, and highly respected by the fellow students. Thanks to his efforts, UTC’s chapter tripled its membership, drawing students from across majors, and earned “Distinguished” (2021–22) and “Outstanding” (2022–24) chapter honors.
In the Fall of 2023, he was selected for an induction into Sigma Pi Sigma, the Physics Honor Society.
