Project Name: Connecting Students & Alumni with Panel Discussion on Physics Careers
Chapter Advisors: Huizhong Xu
Project Description:
The St. John’s University chapter of Sigma Pi Sigma plans to host its 2013 induction ceremony by inviting students, faculty, alumni, and a few local industrial physicists to have a panel discussion on the career opportunities and challenges for physics graduates. Students from all science majors who are interested in pursuing a career in physics or related fields will be invited to attend the ceremony. In addition to inducting new members to Sigma Pi Sigma chapter, the ceremony will have an egg drop contest to put some fun and physics into the event. The main part of the ceremony is for the students to have a dialog with the invited panel guests on career opportunities and challenges for physics graduates. The ceremony will thus promote the study of physics on the St. John’s campus and foster interaction between students, alumni, and local industries as well. The award will be used to cover expenses for the contest materials and the ceremony dinner.
