Purdue University awarded 2015 SPS Chapter Research Award
Zone and Chapter: Purdue University
Project
Project Name: Roswell III, Space Balloon: Journey into the Stratosphere
Project Leaders: Carlos Blanco
Chapter Advisors: Rafael Lang
Project Description: The Purdue University SPS chapter will build on a previous investigation of the Earth’s atmosphere that used a space balloon to observe the Earth’s surface and collect data on altitude, pressure, and humidity. In this project, they will focus on measuring atmospheric gas concentrations of pollutants and greenhouse gasses, aerial photography, and optimizing the design. Ultimately, their hope is to develop a replicable model that can be widely used to collect data on gas concentrations and to observe changes in the atmosphere.
