Showcase Your Chapter—and Break Down Barriers—at the Congress
One of the highlights of the Physics and Astronomy Congress is a celebration of the vibrant activities, events, and communities made possible by SPS chapters from around the country—and beyond. Whether your chapter is just ramping up or has a long legacy of activity, join the Breaking Boundaries Showcase to highlight your chapter’s unique personality and inspire others. There is so much to learn from each other!
What is Breaking Boundaries? Imagine a room full of lively tables, each hosted by a different SPS chapter and showcasing its accomplishments, activities, and members. You can wander from table to table, collecting ideas to bring back to your own chapter and making lasting connections with fellow physics and astronomy undergraduates along the way. Sound awesome? Here’s how you can participate.
- With your chapter, brainstorm what defines your group and how to share it with the larger SPS community. You can bring posters, demos, outreach manuals, fundraising guides, research projects, chapter T-shirts, chapter newsletters, and anything else that fits in your luggage. Get creative!
- Consider sharing a piece of your chapter with others by bringing stickers (attendees will have a sticker passport to fill), pins, or other items to trade. If you need to order anything, start planning now. Once the fall semester hits, the Physics and Astronomy Congress will come quickly!
- Grab your chapter’s best T-shirt and sticker design to bring along, or design awesome new ones! SPS is hosting a T-shirt and sticker contest at the congress, and voting will take place during Breaking Boundaries.
- Reserve your table during the process of registering for the congress.
- Identify which lucky SPS members will staff your table. Create a rotation system so all your chapter members have time to visit other tables too.
- Pack up your gear and hit the road. If you’d like, bring a bag of candy for your table—after all, it will be Halloween weekend!
- Share and celebrate! The chapter showcase will be one of the final events of the meeting, taking place Saturday, November 1, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.
