The Colorado School of Mines will be hosting visits open to all attendees, where we’ll be showing off some of our labs and classrooms as well as our SPS chapter demos and research being done by the students here!
We’re also giving a tour of the Edgar Mine, located in Idaho Springs, which has been used by mining engineering majors for over 100 years to practice blasting, hauling, and drilling! Now why should you, as a physicist, be interested? Well, we’re putting a dilution fridge and quantum system in there! Using the hundreds of feet of rock as shielding, researchers are filtering out loads of cosmic background to see the effects of just the high-intensity, rock-penetrating cosmic background on quantum systems! Make sure you join us for a scenic drive, followed by a thrilling tour of a one-of-a-kind laboratory!
