Last March we hosted the Zone 10 Meeting, which included 28 attendees from six universities. The meeting began with a reception at a local restaurant, and it officially kicked off the next morning at the meeting venue, the UL Lafayette Science Museum.

After welcomes from our SPS advisor, Michalis Charilaou, and Zone 10 councilor Shannon Clardy (Henderson State University), Professor Joseph Dwyer from the University of New Hampshire gave the meeting’s keynote talk, “High-Energy Emissions from Thunderstorms and Lightning.” The lecture was a big hit with students, and an interesting discussion followed.

Next, graduate student Gracie Babineaux presented a live planetarium show, and UL Lafayette physics professor Gabriela Petculescu showed us around the Louisiana Accelerator Center. We also heard from Professor Gabriele Morra on how to start research as an undergraduate. To close out the meeting, we enjoyed more snacks and made liquid nitrogen ice cream together.
