Homecoming: More than a Tradition

For the Austin College poster competition, the SPS chapter designed an ACDC-themed banner—in every sense of the word.
Austin College SPS Chapter,
Last year our SPS chapter enthusiastically embraced the homecoming spirit. The theme was “ACDC” (Austin College Decades Celebration), into which we incorporated notions of alternating current (AC), direct current (DC), and electricity. We participated in several events, boosting school spirit and spreading awareness of our club.
In a window-painting competition, our members created a vibrant display celebrating the significance of AC and DC electricity. We also decorated the main walkway with an interactive display that educated passersby on the principles of electricity. We won that competition and received public recognition during the big game!
One of the cornerstone events of our homecoming activities is an annual Alumni Star Party, organized by the physics department and supported by SPS volunteers. This event serves as a bridge between current students and alumni, fostering a sense of community and shared passion for astronomy. Given all of our activity, our chapter was a prominent feature of the homecoming festivities!
