AIP History and Library Program Intern

Are you curious about the human story behind scientific discoveries? Are you interested in bringing more attention to underrepresented voices in the history of science? The AIP History Programs are looking for an intern to develop educational resources and to conduct outreach to our audiences on topics in the history of the physical sciences. The 2026 intern will work with a historian and a member of the Niels Bohr Library & Archives team to complete projects that document and celebrate women’s contributions to the physical sciences.
Past interns have:
- Conducted in-depth research on historical and contemporary topics and gained a deeper understanding of physics through the lens of history
- Written blog posts for Ex Libris Universum blog, newsletter articles for our AIP History newsletter, and articles for Physics Today magazine on their research
- Conducted oral history interviews with scientists
- Created physical exhibits and contributed to online exhibits based on their research topic
- Edited Wikipedia articles and led Wikipedia edit-a-thons
- Created educational YouTube videos
- Developed best practices for writing about physicists
- Worked with librarians to enrich the Niels Bohr Library book collections
- Presented their work at conferences
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated writing skills
- Interest in public outreach and informal education
- Strong creative skills, visual presentation and/or marketing skills
- Ability to effectively communicate scientific topics to pre-college students
