Chapters, get your cameras rolling and show us why your chapter is excited for #SPSCON2025!

The SPS National Office is pleased to announce the 2025 Physics and Astronomy Congress Video Competition for SPS Chapters! SPS chapters are invited to submit short, engaging videos that creatively highlight and promote #SPSCON2025. Videos can feature elements such as:

  • Worst physics and astronomy jokes
  • Skits
  • The spherical cow
  • Outreach demonstrations
  • Physics puns
  • Incorporation of the SPS or chapter logo
  • Other creative themes and props

How to Submit

Each chapter may submit one video by email to sps-programs@aip.org. Submissions must be less than 1 minute long and be in .mp4 format. Be sure that the hashtag #SPSCON2025 is visible in the video!

Voting and Prizes

Videos submitted by the deadline will be uploaded to the SPS National Instagram account. Chapters are also encouraged to share their videos on their own social media pages.

Voting will take place on Instagram from April 22 to April 24, 2025. The two videos with the most “Likes” on @SPSNational will be declared winners.

The first place chapter will receive $1,000 to help bring their chapter to SPSCon. Second place chapters will receive $500. Funds will be sent to the winning chapters by September 1, 2025.

Contest Rules

  • Videos must not exceed 1 minute, including credits.
  • Only one submission per chapter per school is allowed.
  • The video must positively promote #SPSCON2025.
  • Keep it fun and creative while maintaining professionalism and appropriate decorum.
  • Avoid the illegal use of copyrighted materials. Videos containing profanity, inappropriate content, or explicit lyrics will be disqualified.
  • If the video is not in English, English subtitles must be included.
