US Geological Survey Research Intern

Host: United States Geological Survey (USGS) (1 available)

The intern will work as part of a research team developing and applying petrographic thermal indices. The research goals include development of a standard test method and supporting data for microscopic measurement of the fluorescence color of sedimentary organic matter as a thermal maturity proxy. Under supervision of the PI and laboratory manager, the intern will assist in microscope data collection, data analysis, and interpretation in the context of method development, including repeatability statistics. The intern will prepare and measure spectral fluorescence of multiple samples. The intern will present results of their work at weekly research team meetings. The intern will draft reports outlining method development and a standard operating procedure for microscopic spectral fluorescence measurement.
