Solmaz Bastani

I’m a physics professor at Wofford College, where I teach and mentor students in areas ranging from quantum mechanics to medical physics. My current research focuses on using quantum dots for cancer imaging, and I’m especially passionate about helping students see the real-world applications of physics. I first got involved with SPS as an undergraduate and know how transformative a supportive physics community can be. Outside of academia, I enjoy hiking with my two dogs, dancing, and finding the perfect coffee shop for doing puzzles. As Zone 5 Councilor, I’m excited to foster connection, creativity, and a sense of belonging across our chapters.
