About
Dr. Ramos is a tenured Professor of Physics at Saint Joseph’s University (SJU) and an expert in ultra-low temperature physics, superconductivity, quantum information, helium physics, and quantum fluids, and helped pioneer quantum computing using the Josephson junction phase qubit. He has published in Science, Nature Communications, Physical Review, IEEE journals and the Journal of Applied Physics and has received over $1.7M in funding from the NSF and several private foundations. He received the 2018 Outstanding SPS Chapter Advisor Award and served as SPS Zone 3 Councilor, representing over 70 chapters in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware in 2017-2022. He is an advocate of women-in- STEM and is Founder/Director of the Physics Wonder Girls Program, for which he was awarded 2nd Place in the Greater Philadelphia Social Innovators Awards. He obtained his B.S. Physics degree, cum laude, and M.S. Physics from the University of the Philippines and M.S./Ph.D. degrees in Physics from the University of Washington, and postdoctoral training in superconducting quantum computing from the University of Maryland College Park. Dr. Ramos received the 2023 Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching from SJU and other teaching awards from the University of the Sciences and Drexel University. He has developed courses in Quantum Information and Renewable Energy, and is currently pursuing research in low-temperature physics, superconductivity, quantum optics, and quantum computing pedagogy.
