About

Kayla Stephens is the Associate Director of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) at the American Institute of Physics. Since 2019, she has played a pivotal role in advancing leadership and chapter-based programs, organizing impactful events, and promoting diversity and inclusion within the physics and astronomy community. Kayla oversees the SPS internship program, serves as managing editor for The SPS Observer, and has successfully managed multiple grants and fundraising initiatives to support student development. With a strong background in program management and community engagement, Kayla is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all SPS members.

Kayla’s prior experience includes roles as a Community Education Specialist with the Alexandria Health Department, where she coordinated public health programs, and as a secondary science teacher with Teach for America, where she developed innovative science curricula and fostered a passion for learning among high school students. She also served as a Women’s Health Researcher at Michigan State University, focusing on breast and cervical cancer prevention for underserved populations. Kayla holds a Master of Public Health from The George Washington University and a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Science from Michigan State University, with international research experience in Tanzania and Mexico. This combination of education and professional experience highlights her commitment to education, research, and community outreach.
