Deborah Bard
About
My career spans research in particle physics, cosmology, machine learning and supercomputing. I lead the Data Science Engagement Group at the National Energy Research Scientific Computing center (NERSC), where we support experimental scientists who need supercomputing-scale computing resources to analyse their data. Originally from the UK, I obtained my PhD at Edinburgh University, and worked at Imperial College London and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory before joining NERSC. I’ve participated in the Adopt-a-Physicist program for many years, and being active in the wider community of physicists is very important to me.

Recent position: Group Lead for Data Science Engagement, National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC), at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (LBNL)
Job Description: I work at a DoE National Lab, at one of the three biggest supercomputing centers in the USA. My group works with experimental scientists who need to work with supercomputers for their research. We act as consultants for scientists who are unfamiliar with these powerful computers, and we also work to improve our systems to make them easier for scientists to use. I manage a team of six, and I also manage projects that are developing new technologies and capabilities at NERSC.
